Danish legend declares who is favourite to win next Champions League match: Copenhagen or Manchester United

Manchester United will travel to Denmark in the next Champions League game to take on Copenhagen.

This week Manchester United edged ahead of Copenhagen in the Champions League group, moving up into third place.

It was the narrowest of victories. United’s wasteful finishing meant a Harry Maguire goal was needed to split the two teams, and a 95th minute penalty save was required to avert a draw.

Copenhagen will have home advantage for the next game, and will fancy their chances after running Manchester United so close.

‘Copenhagen are favourites’

Former Denmark international striker Preben Elkjær argues that Copenhagen will be the favourites for the next match.

He told Tipsbladet: “I still think it was a good performance from FCK. They could easily have got the one point – even without this penalty.

“I will say when they meet this team next time. FCK at home. Then I think that FCK are favourites. Because it is one of the worst things I have seen from a Manchester United team.”

Manchester United’s performance at Old Trafford was heavily criticised in Denmark, with one outlet labelling Erik ten Hag’s coaching job as inferior to Copenhagen boss Jacob Neestrup.

Manchester United away form to be put to the test

One of the issues Manchester United have struggled with under Erik ten Hag is the club’s away form, particularly against top level opposition.

Last season Manchester United lost seven and drew one Premier League game out of eight games away at the other top ranked teams in the division, and crashed out of the Europa League away at Sevilla.

This season United have continued with losses away at Tottenham, Arsenal and Bayern Munich.

Recent wins away at Burnley and Sheffield United have demonstrated United can win away from home, but these are teams at the bottom of the Premier League table.

Copenhagen are a Champions League level team, led against Bayern Munich in their home game, before losing 2-1, and ran Manchester United really close at Old Trafford.

They will be full of belief they can get a result against United, and it will be a really good test for Erik ten Hag’s side.
