Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek made a surprise return to action this week for the club.
On one hand, you could ask, ‘if you don’t get any minutes when 3-0 up at home to Palace in the Cup, then when?’.
Yet, most Manchester United fans were a little surprised to see Donny van de Beek make an appearance, his first of the 2023/24 season.
It was the first time Van de Beek had even made a matchday squad this season.

Daley Blind on Donny van de Beek
Donny van de Beek’s former Ajax teammate Daley Blind has been speaking about the midfielder in an interview with The Athletic.
Blind believes Van de Beek has the ability to be a success at Old Trafford, but warns he may run out of time.
He said: “Donny’s a real No 10 and there are not a lot of teams who play with a No 10 in top football. I think he can adapt to new positions if he gets time.
“He has the quality to be a top player at United, but United doesn’t wait for anyone.”
Van de Beek signed for Manchester United in 2020. He has only made six starts for the club since, having either failed to convince managers, being sent out out loan, or suffering with injuries.
Donny van de Beek cannot play in Champions League
Van de Beek can play in the Premier League and Carabao Cup, however, he won’t be playing in the Champions League.
This is because he was not registered as part of the squad for the tournament.
Van de Beek hoped the arrival of Erik ten Hag, his former Ajax boss, would turn his career at the club around, however, it hasn’t worked that way.
As it stands, he has recently been overtaken by impressive youngster Hannibal Mejbri, who is beginning to make a name for himself as a Manchester United first team player.
