Ronaldo had a frosty relationship with interim manager Ralf Rangnick, but the situation worsened after Ten Hag arrived as his playing time diminished.
In November 2022, shortly before the World Cup in Qatar, Ronaldo gave an explosive interview with Piers Morgan where he criticised the club, the manager, and teammates.
Later that month, United announced that Ronaldo would leave Old Trafford by mutual agreement.

Morgan also asked Ronaldo whether he still speaks to former manager Ferguson since leaving United.
“For a long time I don’t speak,” Ronaldo said.
“When I was in Manchester, I used to speak more with him and he used to come to my house for a tea. He drinks tea with the milk.
“He’s a good man. He’s a person that I’m always going to have in my heart because, you know. This person really helped me in my life, in my career.”
