Manchester United have reached out to wish Cristiano Ronaldo a happy birthday.

Cristiano Ronaldo is now 39, celebrating his birthday today (5/2). The Portuguese legend even received a special message from Manchester United.

While the forward’s second spell at the club ended amid some bitterness, there was a fairly amicable parting of ways, with United and Ronaldo agreeing to a mutual contract termination, rather than having it drag out.

Ronaldo was frustrated with United’s direction not matching his ambition, and a lack of regular starts under manager Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United send message

Cristiano Ronaldo achieved a lot during his first spell at the club, winning the Ballon d’Or, in addition to leading Manchester United to the Champions League, and three consecutive Premier League titles, plus various domestic cups.

He managed to score 27 goals during his second spell at United, with 145 goals for the club in total, ranking 14th in the club’s history.

United sent a message wishing Ronaldo a happy birthday, with a message ‘Viva Ronaldo’.

Cristiano Ronaldo rarely responds to any of Manchester United’s social media feeds. Last season he did not congratulate the team on their Carabao Cup success.

But the ice may be beginning to thaw, with Ronaldo acknowledging Manchester United’s personal post to him, by ‘liking’ the message, which was also liked by his former teammates Edwin van der Sar and current Portugal colleague Bruno Fernandes.

No message for Carlos Tevez

Cristiano Ronaldo shares a birthday with his former Manchester United teammate, Carlos Tevez, also born on February 5.

Tevez is one year older, now celebrating his 40th birthday, and unlike Ronaldo, is now retired.

Manchester United did not send a message to Tevez, at least not yet. That’s what happens when you ditch United to sign for City.

This was something Ronaldo toyed with prior to re-signing at Old Trafford, and while he might have won trophies had he linked up with City, it would have forever tainted his Manchester United legacy.

Ronaldo is still playing for Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, finishing 2023 as the highest goalscorer in world football.
