FC Copenhagen manager Jacob Neestrup has delivered a warning for Manchester United ahead of the reverse fixture in a few weeks’ time.
Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United got over the line in the end after a tight and tense 1-0 win over Copenhagen, which included a late penalty save from Andre Onana, the man of the match.
The Danish side certainly looked promising and will probably feel hard done by that they didn’t rescue a point in the end.
The reverse fixture will be crucial for United and it is set to be a tough game for the Red Devils with their record away from home being poor.
Neestrup on reverse fixture
Speaking after the game in his post-match press conference, Neestrup seemingly had a positive outlook on the situation following the tough-to-take defeat.
“We have to look at the positives right now,” he said. “We nearly took points at Old Trafford but in a couple of hours when I look at it I will probably feel: ‘Ah, we were so close to getting a great point,’ but that is what happens at this level.
“In a couple of weeks, I have a big belief that we can make it very difficult for Manchester United in Copenhagen.
“Over 95 minutes we were totally in the game. I think we had the better of the first half and they started the second half better but the last 15 minutes were equal again. I think we do everything we can today to create that game picture that we want, with and without the ball.”
United’s tough task
With Bayern Munich winning away against Galatasaray, this means that they have essentially guaranteed qualification to the knockout stages of the competition.
With 9 points from 9, the top spot in the group is seemingly out of reach but the race for second in the group is well and truly alive.
United’s dramatic win, thanks to Onana’s heroics, could be the catalyst to qualification for the last 16 stage of the competition.
