Club president praised for planned deal for Manchester United star, ‘exceeding expectations’ and worth every penny

Value for money is tough to find in modern football, as Manchester United have found over the past decade.

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski recently blasted Premier League clubs for spending £60 million on unproven forwards, comments that will have had Manchester United’s ears burning.

We would imagine that Lewandowski feels a little more favourably towards Barcelona’s own value for money deal, landing Marcus Rashford on a season long loan.

Barcelona are paying Rashford’s wages, and have agreed in principle a purchase agreement at the end of the loan, in the region of £26 million.

Joan Laporta praised over Marcus Rashford deal

Marcus Rashford is in excellent form, with his assist for Barcelona against PSG making it a combined 7 goals and assists in 7 games for club and country.

It is being taken as a given that Barcelona will seek to activate their purchase clause to snap up the Manchester United forward permanently.

The only unknown is whether they will attempt to haggle on the deal, or even bring it forward to strike an agreement in January.

But even based on the initial agreement, Barcelona president Joan Laporta is earning major praise in Spain.

Catalunya Diari describe the planned fee for Rashford as a ‘significant investment in the market’, but add that it looks to be worthwhile.

“Joan Laporta is seeing how the planned investment is beginning to bear tangible fruit.

“Barca needed an attacking player with a prolific and creative ability. His performance is exceeding expectations and consolidating the president’s vision regarding the importance of investing in proven talent.”

One uncertainty could remain

There is only one more uncertainty that could influence Marcus Rashford’s future, and that is the future of Ruben Amorim.

Amorim is the Manchester United head coach who has twice sanctioned Rashford’s departure, first in January on loan, and then this past summer.

Manchester United fans are rapidly losing faith in Amorim due to inconsistent results, that once again leave the Red Devils stranded in the bottom half of the table.

If Amorim is axed or walks away, Rashford’s situation could land on the lap of a new boss.

It is hard to see him wanting to return to Old Trafford, but there could be a conversation or two, especially if Amorim’s replacement decides to reach out to him.
