Christian Eriksen has verbally agreed to join Manchester United on a free transfer, according to the Athletic.

The Denmark playmaker, who shined during a six-month spell at Brentford last season, has reportedly communicated to the Red Devils that he wants to join the club and is prepared to accept their proposal of a three-year deal.

United were hoping to oust the Bees to the 30-year-old’s signature this summer and it looks like Erik ten Hag’s rebuild is continuing to build momentum.

The former Tottenham Hotspur man will add quality, creativity, depth and goals to United’s midfield.

Following the departures of Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata on free transfers, Ten Hag was keen to bring in reinforcements to bolster the midfield department.

The arrival of Eriksen on a free transfer will also allow Ten Hag to use transfer funds elsewhere.

Capable of playing in the attacking midfield role or as a deep-lying playmaker, Eriksen could prove to be the quite the coup for Ten Hag.

After joining Thomas Frank’s Bees on a short-term deal for the second half of last season, Eriksen’s arrival galvanised the promoted side and helped them steer comfortably clear of the relegation zone.

After a slow start to the transfer window for United, it looks like the momentum is building and the number of deals that look to be heading in the right direction is encouraging.

Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia is expected to be unveiled as Ten Hag’s first signing today and it is hoped that deals for Lisandro Martinez and Frenkie de Jong could follow.
