Manchester United set to announce Tyrell Malacia signing on Monday

Manchester United are set to announce the signing of Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord on Monday, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 22-year-old is due to fly to England this afternoon (Sunday, 3 July) and undergo the first part his medical tests ahead of completing his move tomorrow.

United fans will be needing some good news following the bombshell that Cristiano Ronaldo is keen to leave the club less than 12 months after re-joining from Juventus, The Times reports.

The 37-year-old is keen to challenge for major trophies during the latter years of his career and the five-time Ballon d’Or winner doesn’t fancy the prospect of missing a year in the Champions League.

While United may already be exploring potential replacements for Ronaldo, Malacia’s imminent arrival will at least kickstart United’s summer transfer business and the five-time Netherlands international will become the first signing of the Erik ten Hag era.

It looked like Malacia, who came through the Feyenoord academy and made 136 appearances for the Rotterdam giants, was set for a move to Ligue 1 side Lyon.

But United hijacked the deal and after being impressed with what he saw first-hand from the attack-minded left-back when seeing his Ajax side play against Feyenoord, Ten Hag has got his man.

A deal worth around an initial £13m, with a further £1.7m in add-ons and a potential sell-on clause was agreed with Feyenoord, according to Sky Sports.

After a slow start to the transfer window, United fans will be hoping signings start to be announced at the same rate those London buses rock up.

According to the Athletic, Malacia is set to sign a four-year contract with the option for an additional fifth year.

Malacia made 50 appearances for Feyenoord last season and was part of the side that lost 1-0 in the final of the inaugural UEFA Conference League against Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

The Dutchman will pose a stern challenge to the likes of Luke Shaw and Alex Telles to be United’s first-choice left-back.
