Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen says he is happy for Anthony Elanga after the Swede left the club.

Anthony Elanga returns to Old Trafford with Nottingham Forest this weekend for Saturday’s fixture between the two sides.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Elanga explained he was thankful to the help from senior players he got to play alongside, Eriksen included.

Former teammate Eriksen spoke to United’s website about Elanga and agreed his departure was in his interests.

Eriksen on Elanga

Eriksen explained: “I’m happy for him. Of course, he was not playing and not being involved and I know how tough that is.

“So I’m really happy for him. I hope he can really have a big success there. He’s earned it.

“I mean he’s always training, training hard, working his everything off to try to be better. Hopefully, he can continue that at Forest.”

Nobody at United would begrudge academy graduate Elanga a bright future, however, this weekend he is an opponent who the side will be trying hard to stop.

Elanga provided an assist on his Nottingham Forest debut against Arsenal, and having seen former players score against United in the past, there is something inevitable about a goal for the Swede this weekend.

Anthony Elanga scored four times for Manchester United, never at Old Trafford.

His strikes came away at Wolves, Brentford, Leeds and Atletico Madrid, but in home games, his luck wasn’t in.

The way United’s season is going, Elanga will fancy his chances to break that duck this weekend.
