Christian Eriksen not expected to depart with United squad on Friday

Christian Eriksen is not expected to form part of Manchester United’s travelling party that departs for Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday.

The Reds are due to jet off for the first part of Tour 22 on Friday, and it looks like the Denmark international will be joining Erik ten Hag and his players later on in the tour, according to the Guardian.

The 30-year-old has ‘verbally agreed’ a three-year deal to join the Reds after opting to move to Old Trafford over re-signing for former club Brentford.

The former Tottenham and Inter Milan playmaker joined the Bees in January and played an influential role in guiding Thomas Frank’s side to safety in their first season in the Premier League.

With Eriksen’s move to the Theatre of Dreams yet to be officially announced, United’s potential second signing under Ten Hag will likely join up with the rest of his new teammates later on in the tour.

With Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata all leaving the club on free transfers following the expiry of their contracts at the end of last month, signing Eriksen on a free transfer represents a massive coup, which bolsters Ten Hag’s midfield options.

Eriksen’s influence at the Brentford Community Stadium was clear to see, prior to his arrival the West London-based side looked to be heading for a relegation dogfight.

But from the 10 games Eriksen started, Frank’s men picked up 22 points from a possible 30 and moved comfortably clear of the dreaded drop zone.

From those matches, Eriksen produced one goal and four assists, and if he manages to continue that rate of goal involvements under Ten Hag – the Dane will quickly become a fan favourite at Old Trafford.
