Manchester United were well aware of Andrey Santos’ exciting potential when striking a £48 million deal with Chelsea.
Andrey Santos impressed on his debut for Manchester United, despite the Red Devils losing 1-0 to Wrexham in the first pre-season friendly of the summer.
The 22-year-old played in a deep midfield position and looked comfortable wearing red. United fans are excited by Santos, and the Brazilian will only get better with time and experience.
The £48 million deal for Santos is a long-term investment from Ineos as the former Chelsea player has a world-class ceiling.

Andrey Santos can overtake Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo
At Chelsea, Santos was rated highly but was starved of minutes because he found himself behind two £100m+ players in midfield in the shape of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.
United were linked with Caicedo and also showed interest in Fernandez before their moves to Stamford Bridge. But it is Santos that Ineos have gambled on.
According to Chelsea expert Bobby Vincent, speaking to Manchester Evening News, Santos has the potential to become even better than both of his former Blues teammates.
“Santos has the potential to become a better player than Caicedo and Fernandez in the future, but last season it made more sense to give them more minutes on the pitch. The fee has split many Chelsea fans,” Vincent said.
“Some see him as a really bright talent with a sky-high ceiling, while others think he struggled last season and the club were right to cash in. I lean more towards the former.
“I think Santos can become a top-class central midfielder in the future and while £50m might seem a lot, is it actually given some of the prices we’ve seen this summer for players in similar positions?”

Andrey Santos needs time, patience and trust
Old Trafford has not been the best environment over the past decade for young players to develop. Gary Neville called it a ‘graveyard’ for talent just a few years ago.
But Ineos are trying to change that narrative, and Michael Carrick is the right head coach to lead that change.
Santos has extremely exciting potential, but United fans must remember that he is still young and needs patience.
Already, Santos has proven he can bounce back from mistakes, which is a key trait needed to represent United in midfield.
In 2026/27, Santos may not even be a regular starter, but it could be a crucial campaign for the Brazilian’s development as a player.
