Casemiro is a big fan of Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United have switched attention from Adrien Rabiot to Casemiro, The Telegraph report.

This is a real upgrade in terms of ambition, and the finances involved would be bigger too. United are said to be ‘considering’ a £50 million move.

Casemiro’s desires will be key. Even if he decides he does want to leave Real Madrid amid the arrival of Aurelien Tchouameni, it’s another matter whether he chooses Manchester United as the ideal landing spot.

One chip in United’s corner, for now, is the chance for Casemiro to reunite with Cristiano Ronaldo.

Casemiro is a big fan of Cristiano Ronaldo

Of the many players to have shared joy and success with Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid, Casemiro has consistently been one of his biggest supporters.

The Brazil international told Football Espana in 2018: “We have to keep enjoying the best player in the world. It’s a pleasure to play alongside him.”

In a separate interview he talked up Ronaldo’s character behind the scenes in addition to his ability on the pitch.

Casemiro told The Express: “What he does is unbelievable. The wonder goal he scored… he’s the best in the world.

“We have to keep enjoying his football, his goals, he’s hard work and leadership in the dressing room. The longer he’s with us, the better.”

The midfielder even risked upsetting teammate Luka Modric after his Ballon d’Or win, by saying he would have given the award to Cristiano Ronaldo instead.

He told AS: “I think the year Luka has had has been spectacular. [But] I’d give it to Cristiano for everything he achieved last season.”   

No guarantee they will play together even if Casemiro joins

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Manchester United is still up in the air. The Times has been reporting for weeks that the superstar has wanted to quit the club.

The Times this week reported Erik ten Hag is coming around to the idea of letting him leave, although Joel Glazer may not feel the same way.

Casemiro heading to United could make Ronaldo more likely to want to stay, convincing him the club could quickly turn around their form.

It would be a bitter blow for the Brazilian if he were to decide to sacrifice life at Real Madrid to head to United, only to see Ronaldo head for the exit door.
