Manchester United took a step towards another trophy with a come from behind win to beat West Ham in the FA Cup fifth round.

An own goal equalised West Ham’s second half opener, with Bruno Fernandes‘ corner kick headed into his own net by Naif Aguerd.

Fernandes had retained his place in the starting line-up despite the mounting fixture schedule and looming trip to Anfield.

As the Portugal international had made clear before, he simply loves to play football, and played all 90 minutes in Manchester United’s 3-1 win.

Alejandro Garnacho and Fred scored late goals to clinch the win for United, to keep the Red Devils in the hunt for another trophy, fresh off winning the Carabao Cup.

Fernandes wrote on Instagram, ‘Never give up’, underlining the resilience in the team right now which also saw them come from behind to beat Barcelona last week.

Teammate Casemiro reacted admiringly to Fernandes’ message, with the Brazilian a half-time substitute in United’s victory.

There was also a message from Fulham star Joao Palhinha, who Manchester United will ace at Old Trafford in the quarter-finals after the teams were drawn against each other.

Palhinha is a former teammate of Fernandes at Sporting, and he wrote simply, ‘See you soon’.

The quarter-final will take place in mid-March, which is one of two games Manchester United have to play against Fulham at Old Trafford.

The second one is in the Premier League on May 28, the final game of the season.

Fulham have had a successful season, sitting seventh in the Premier League level on points with Liverpool. While a home tie is welcome in the FA Cup, it certainly won’t be an easy game.
