Can Marcel Sabitzer play in the Europa League?
Marcel Sabitzer played all six group stage games in the Champions League group stages, starting three and featuring three times as a substitute.
He is eligible to play for Manchester United in the Europa League, as players are permitted to feature in two competitions for different clubs.
There is one complication, after Sabitzer picked up a third yellow card in Bayern’s final group stage match against Inter Milan in November.
This earned him a one-game suspension, with Sabitzer previously scheduled to miss Bayern’s Champions League first leg last 16 match against PSG.
UEFA’s website rule 52.03 confirms one-game yellow card suspensions are carried over from one competition to another.
This means Sabitzer will be suspended for Manchester United’s Europa League play-off round first leg away at Barcelona. He will be available for the second leg at Old Trafford.
Can Marcel Sabitzer play in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup?
Sabitzer will be available to play for Manchester United in the Carabao Cup final, pending qualification, and the FA Cup fifth round and beyond.
He is not cup-tied, and so United are permitted to introduce new signings during the competition.
