Bruno Fernandes’ three-word message to Anthony Elanga gives fans reason to be excited

Back in May 2021, Bruno Fernandes told Manchester United’s official website he was impressed by youngster Anthony Elanga.

Elanga had just come into first team training and Fernandes offered him words of encouragement.

The Portuguese star said: “Quiet, works hard. He is really good on the ball, plays with both feet. So he has a future.

“If he puts his head focused on what he has to do and what he can achieve, I think he has a future with us.”

Now a regular part of Manchester United’s first team, Elanga is scoring regularly – and netted the biggest goal of his career away at Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.

Fernandes provided the assist for Elanga’s crucial tie-levelling strike, and he continues to have full faith in the 19-year-old.

He sent a message on his Instagram in response to Elanga’s goal, proclaiming, ‘First of many’.

Elanga is in the history books as the fifth youngest player to score for Manchester United in the Champions League.

He is also the youngest to score his first goal in the knockout stages, and away from home.

Elanga may get a chance to add to his numbers as soon as a fortnight’s time when United play the home leg.

Edinson Cavani may return to the side, but if he is not fit and United have the same attacking options, then Elanga has a good chance to start at Old Trafford.
