Scott McTominay has now scored four goals in two games for Scotland – and pure numbers don’t justify how big his night was.
The Manchester United midfielder netted a brace to fire Scotland to a 2-0 victory over Spain, their first victory over La Roja since 1984.
It came after Scott McTominay scored two against Cyprus at the weekend, a double which saw Bruno Fernandes suggest he should play as a striker.
Fernandes was watching McTominay’s big performance against Spain and was very impressed with his teammate.

Fernandes congratulates McTominay
Bruno Fernandes posted to his Instagram story reel writing: “What a player McTerminator” with a clapping emoji.
United captain Harry Maguire also applauded the midfielder with a picture of McTominay and star emojis.
McTominay had only scored one international goal in his career before this week. Now he is up to five.
And with two of them against Spain, these were big ones. It was the type of result to make the rest of Europe sit up and take notice, and his United teammates were clearly impressed.
This was just what McTominay’s season needed. He has only started four club games in 2023 so far, playing 90 minutes only twice.
He even began this international break on Scotland’s bench, and ended it as their hero.
Even though his Manchester United future may look bleak long term, he could have a big role to play between now and the end of the season.
With Casemiro out, Fernandes could be lining up with McTominay against Newcastle on Sunday, and the Portugal international is clearly keen to praise his teammate and ensure he is full of confidence and ready to go.
