Bruno Fernandes not accepting Europa League excuse for abysmal Premier League form, Roy Keane criticism struck a chord

Manchester United fell to their 17th defeat in the Premier League on Sunday.

It was another hard watch at the weekend as Manchester United suffered a 2-0 defeat against West Ham to somehow worsen their already damning record in the Premier League.

Tomas Soucek opened the scoring to fire West Ham into the lead, with Graham Potter’s side deserving of their 1-0 lead at half-time.

West Ham secured the win as Jarrod Bowen made it 2-0 in the second half. It was the Hammers’ first Premier League win at Old Trafford since 2007.

Despite a few bright moments from Amad Diallo, who is still returning from his injury, Ruben Amorim’s side was unable to find a way back into the game. It was still a positive showing from the Ivorian winger as he got more minutes under his belt before the Europa League final next Wednesday.

To make matters worse, United have lost four of their last five Premier League matches, and things are unlikely to pick up with two games left to play.

There is still a possibility that United could finish as low as 17th this season.

Bruno Fernandes not making Europa League excuse

There are not enough players in the current United squad that you would consider a winner.

Bruno Fernandes is one of them and he has been tasked to perform in extremely difficult circumstances at Old Trafford.

When things aren’t going United’s way, Fernandes is the player Amorim demands inspiration from, which is why his comments carry weight after the 2-0 defeat to West Ham.

Fernandes made his feelings known at full-time and stressed that the team wanted to build on their 4-1 win over Athletic Club at Old Trafford.

“Very disappointing result at home,” Fernandes told MUTV in his post-match interview. “We wanted to win the game after the last game in the Europa League. Obviously, we were very confident.

“I think we created enough opportunities to score goals and to be in front in the result. Then when you don’t score, you end up conceding in a moment where you are in full control of the game.

“But it’s been happening a little bit a lot in this season for us, that we’re in control of games and all of a sudden you can’t score, and then you concede a goal from a little bit of a stronger (play) in the box.

“But we know that we need to improve a lot in the Premier League, that we need to be much more aggressive, get much more into their box, be more dangerous, be more effective.”

The frustrated United captain does not believe Europa League final preparations can be used to excuse such a lacklustre performance.

“No, it can’t make (a) difference because everyone has been training very hard, very well, so everyone is prepared to play at any moment.

“So, I don’t think that’s the point because I think all the team is prepared for that.

“Every chance and every opportunity is a chance to get into the next 11 and the next 11, and the next 11, so you have to get your chance, you have to get your opportunity.

“It doesn’t matter if you’ve been playing less or more, if you get your chance, if you do things rightly, then you can end up playing.”

United take on Chelsea in the Premier League on Friday night, which will be a chance to win their first league match in seven days.

Bruno Fernandes echoes Roy Keane rant

Roy Keane expressed disappointment at United after falling to a recent defeat against Wolves.

The former United captain complained about Amorim’s decision to rotate players needing a rest in between Premier League and Europa League matches; however, the United head coach has had no other choice but to manage the workload on his players.

Roy Keane argued that players should be inspired to win football matches every week at a club like United.

Fernandes’ comments suggest he is in agreement with Keane, saying: “No, it can’t make (a) difference because everyone has been training very hard, very well, so everyone is prepared to play at any moment.
