Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has made a joke about the reaction to his reunion with Cristano Ronaldo at Portugal’s camp ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.

United’s number eight was back alongside the 37-year-old for the first time since Ronaldo’s explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

The five-time Ballon d’or winner went on a rampage directed towards his current employers and he has shown a clear lack of respect to the club he supposedly loves.

Having promised to deliver his own version of events, which he dubbed the truth, towards the end of the summer transfer window after failing to secure a move away from Old Trafford, Ronaldo more than delivered on his promise.

Having arrived at the Portuguese camp, the interaction between United’s Portuguese magnifico and Ronaldo was deemed to be somewhat frosty.

However, Benfica midfielder Joao Mario, who has also been called-up to Fernando Santos’ Selecao squad, downplayed the interaction and attempted to pour cold water on the interaction.

Mario’s version of events was that Ronaldo made a joke to Fernandes about him being the first to arrive to the Portuguese squad, which isn’t a surprise given he was supposedly ill for our last two matches, and that the former Sporting Lisbon captain was the last to arrive.

The former Juventus man reportedly tried to make a joke to Fernandes by asking if the playmaker had travelled by boat.

Fernandes has responded to Mario’s version of events with a playful comment.

On his Instagram story, Fernandes wrote: “Oh Joao Mario there’s you messing up newspaper covers.”

While Mario and Fernandes have tried to quash any talk of a rift between the United duo, there didn’t seem to be any interaction between the pair in training.
