Manchester United midfielder Fred continued his mini purple patch in front of goal by netting in last night’s 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest.

The Red Devils advanced to the Carabao Cup final having beaten Steve Cooper’s side 5-0 on aggregate across the two semi-final legs.

Second half goals from Anthony Martial and Fred proved enough to see off The City Ground side.

Erik ten Hag’s Reds will take on Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United in the final on 26 February.

Marcus Rashford’s pass to Fred, following Bruno Fernandes’ stunning outside of the boot cross, gave the Brazilian the simplest of tap ins.

United’s number 17 kneed the ball home to score his second goal in as many games following his nonchalant finish against Reading on Friday.

The 29-year-old has scored four goals this season, which is as many as he mustered up in his first three seasons at Old Trafford combined.

The 32-time Brazil international has scored in back-to-back home games against Forest, and Odessa (3) are the only side that Fred has scored more times against in his career than Forest.

Bruno Fernandes has been impressed with Fred’s recent form in front of goal and United’s number eight commented on the former Shakhtar Donetsk’s Instagram post.

Making reference to Fred’s goalscoring exploits, the former Sporting Lisbon wrote: “The so-called killer”.

With Christian Eriksen ruled out of action until late April with an ankle injury, Fred will be hoping to establish himself as a regular alongside his compatriot Casemiro in Ten Hag’s midfield.

But new recruit Marcel Sabitzer, who will be looking to hit the ground running at Carrington and force his way into Ten Hag’s best XI, may have something to say about that.
