Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes returned to training yesterday ahead of tonight’s Carabao Cup tie.

Fernandes was among the 25 players training with the first team squad in preparation for the clash with Burnley.

The midfielder sent a short message on Instagram showing he was happy to be back at Carrington.

Fernandes’ picture shows him taking on another returning star, Antony, with manager Erik ten Hag watching on.

The midfielder has now had 11 days since his World Cup quarter-final elimination, with Portugal beaten by Morocco.

Fernandes had played well at the tournament, scoring two goals and providing three assists.

Now for the first time in one and a half seasons, Fernandes is free from Cristiano Ronaldo at club level, and can be expected to start taking a prominent role.

Tonight however, he may have to settle for a place on the bench with Erik ten Hag easing him back into action.

But if Fernandes is needed, he will be ready. His high level of performance at the World Cup has shown this.

Data showed Fernandes had a higher player rating than any other player at the tournament.

United will want him to bring this form back with him when he returns to action.
