Bruno Fernandes has given a cryptic response as to the situation that led to Ruben Amorim’s firing, and it’s extremely interesting.

This has been a season of two halves for Manchester United, with Michael Carrick taking over from an embattled Ruben Amorim to guide the team to UCL qualification.

It was theorised for a long time, but Carrick proved that Amorim just wasn’t doing enough with the team he had at his disposal.

Bruno Fernandes, ever the model professional, only spoke well about Amorim until now, when his cryptic comments hint that not everything was well behind the scenes.

Have the standards fallen at Man Utd, or is the chance to make history in a dead-rubber game a no-brainer?

Bruno Fernandes is cryptic on Ruben Amorim’s sacking

It goes without saying that when a manager is sacked, something has gone wrong, but Amorim’s case was a bit different.

Unlike any previous Man Utd manager, Amorim clearly had the players still on his side. He just wasn’t using them well.

Few can talk about that better than Fernandes, who has been a player reborn after being restored to his No. 10 position.

Fernandes has already spoken about how Amorim still helped his game with a deeper role, but he has now hinted that not everything was well behind the scenes due to Amorim’s personality.

In an interview with Sky after winning the FWA Footballer of the Year award, Fernandes said he preferred not to speak about why Amorim was sacked, but Carrick’s personality and calmness were much needed.

He said: “When the change was made, we were not far away from what we wanted for this season. That was the top four. At the same time, a change was needed by the club for different reasons. I won’t be naming them now. Michael came in with a big personality, calmness, and knowledge of what he needed to do to bring the best out of this team.”

Fernandes’ comments hint at personality discord with Amorim

Fernandes was never going to be one of the players who went against the manager, but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t see how Amorim’s way of man-management could backfire.

CONGRATULATIONS to Bruno Fernandes – The 2025/26 Football Writers Award Player of the Year… let us know your REACTION!

Can you name the last Man Utd player to win this specific award?

From youngsters in the academy to Patrick Dorgu in the senior team, multiple players have talked about Amorim’s abrasive interactions hurting the team.

Most have talked about how Carrick’s calmness has been a refreshing change of pace at Carrington, which was repeatedly called out by Amorim.

United need a manager who can block out the outside noise. Amorim added flames to it due to how he dealt with the press and his own players.

Fernandes has hinted that even though he had the players on his side, the discord might have forced the club to make a change.
