Bruno Fernandes sent out a poignant message to Manchester United fans after the Red Devils’ 2-1 win over Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
Manchester United bounced back from their 3-1 Premier League defeat to Brighton at Old Trafford last weekend with an important victory in their European campaign.
The Red Devils played out a 0-0 scoreline against Rangers in the first half before Ruben Amorim’s men broke the deadlock at Old Trafford after the break.
A comical error from Jack Butland during Christian Eriksen’s corner allowed United to take the lead and the Red Devils were in front for a large part of the second half.
However, Rangers came close to snatching a late point after Cyriel Dessers took advantage of Harry Maguire’s poor defending and netted for the Scottish side.
Bruno Fernandes came to United’s rescue and cancelled out Cyriel Dessers’ equaliser in injury time after he scored the winner past Jack Butland from close range.
Fernandes’ message after Man Utd win
Bruno Fernandes’ winner against Rangers has put Manchester United in a strong position of reaching the Europa League knockout rounds.
The Red Devils are fourth in the Europa League table and United have won their last four matches in the competition under Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim.
United had kicked off their Europa League campaign under Erik ten Hag and picked up three draws before the Dutchman was sacked by the Premier League club.
Amorim’s side will definitely make the last 16 of the Europa League if United can beat Romanian side FCSB away from home next week.
Fernandes took to Instagram and dropped a clear-cut message to United fans after the important win over Rangers at Old Trafford on Thursday.
“ALWAYS UNITED [sic],” he wrote to his followers, adding a heart emoji.
Juan Mata, who is now playing in Australia’s A-League with Western Sydney Wanderers, was spotted in the comments and posted a love heart emoji in response.
Amorim on Man Utd result
United will now shift their attention back to the Premier League ahead of their clash with Fulham on Sunday at Craven Cottage.
Speaking after the Rangers match, United manager Amorim insisted that the “fair” outcome came from the Europa League clash at Old Trafford.
“It is hard to deal because we didn’t deserve the draw at the moment,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.
“I think it was fair to say we deserved to win the game. We already knew it is tough in this moment and we start well.
“The pace of the game helped us because it is different and you can feel it. We tried to do things and we were better with the ball.
“We controlled well in the beginning and then we lost control for seven minutes because some of our passes in transition. We created the best chances and we deserved to win.”
