There is no denying that Bruno Fernandes is Manchester United’s most valuable player.

Many will argue that Bruno Fernandes has been Manchester United’s most influential player ever since he joined the club in January 2020.

Even more United fans would argue the Portugal international has been the club’s best signing of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era at Old Trafford.

Fernandes has won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award three times and he is on course to win the prestigious accolade again this year.

The 30-year-old has carried Ruben Amorim’s side in recent months to quench the fire from Roy Keane’s heated rant about the current United captain. The international break meant United only played two league games in March and Fernandes starred in those games against Arsenal and Leicester City, taking up a deeper position in midfield.

Fernandes registered two goals and as many assists in those two games played in March and he has been deservedly recognised for his efforts.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is keeping the critics quiet.

After winning the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award for March, Fernandes completes a trio of individual accolades. The others include the Premier League’s Player of the Month awards.

Fernandes started April with a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, when Anthony Elanga struck to haunt United in the fifth minute. And, he was among United’s top performers in the scoreless Manchester derby at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Reds are back in action on Thursday night when they travel to Lyon for the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals, but they’re back in Premier League action three days later for a trip to Newcastle.

Fernandes will be aiming to get back to winning ways and it would be naïve to write him off from getting back on the scoresheet.

Fernandes holds Europa League records

In United’s last Europa League match – 4-1 win over Real Sociedad – Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick to help record a 5-2 aggregate victory.

It took Fernandes’ tally in the competition to 24 goals and 17 assists, which is more than any in the history of the Europa League.

Fernandes doesn’t only hold the record for most goal contributions in Europe’s second-rate competition, he has also scored more penalties than any other player in the Europa League.

This year, he has a golden chance to lift the trophy but there is more work to done to achieve that. It’s the only way United can qualify for the Champions League.
