One of the more sadly memorable images from the Europa League final was a tearful Bruno Fernandes at full time.

Fernandes looked devastated after United’s 11-10 penalty shootout loss, and he has remained silent since. Until now.

This afternoon, following Paul Pogba doing the same, Fernandes has posted to social media to reflect on the defeat, and he is preaching the message of togetherness.

Fernandes has come in for some stick after he was nullified by Villarreal’s defensive tactics in the final, but just as much blame lies with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for failing to find a solution.

Fernandes had a fantastic individual season, scoring 28 goals and providing 18 assists.

Sadly he just could not follow it up with one more great effort, and United fell short at the final hurdle.

It was more painful than another semi-final defeat, but there is some solace that United at least made the final this time.

Next season there are bigger fish to fry, with United keen to make a real push in the Champions League, and these players will be more hardened and experienced and hopefully more determined after this agonising failure.
