Dean Henderson sealed his exit from Manchester United last night with his move to Crystal Palace confirmed.

Manchester United have bid farewell to goalkeeper Dean Henderson after finally granting him a permanent move.

Henderson told Crystal Palace’s media he was thrilled to make the switch and wanted a fresh start to put an end to his perpetual cycle of loans and uncertainty.

United will recoup around £20 million from the transfer and use just over £4 million to spend on replacement back-up Altay Bayindir.

Dean Henderson message

While Dean Henderson was pleased to seal his exit and escape a season on Manchester United’s bench, he also recognises this is the end of a long journey for him, before he begins his new one.

He sent an emotional message reflecting on his rollercoaster spell at the club and thanking United for his development.

Henderson wrote on Instagram: “Saying goodbye to United is an emotional moment for me. This club has been a part of my life since I was a kid. From growing up as a United fan, to joining the academy aged 14, to stepping out on the pitch at Old Trafford! The journey has been a dream come true and I feel very blessed and fortunate to have fulfilled that dream.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone in the club who believed in my potential and helped shape my career. To everyone in the academy, my teammates, my family, the managers and the back room staff, your guidance and support has helped me become the player and man I am today.

“And to the fans – your support has meant the world to my family and I. I’ve been United since I was a kid, and being able to wear the United badge on my chest has been an honour beyond words. I never took for granted the responsibility that came with wearing the shirt. We’ve had some highs and lows but I want to thank all of you for sticking by me throughout.

“Thank you for the memories and I wish the club all the very best for the future. United ❤️👊🏼”

Manchester United players react

Dean Henderson has been at Manchester United a long time and was a well-liked player behind the scenes.

This was evident by the responses to his message, with Scott McTominay and club captain Bruno Fernandes leading the tributes.

Henderson return soon

Henderson could have a very early return to Old Trafford. Manchester United have been drawn against Crystal Palace for the Carabao Cup third round match later this month.

He will get a chance to show what he can do, and play against United for the first time, something he was always banned from doing per terms of his loan deals.
