Tyrell Malacia made his long-awaited return to the pitch after featuring for Manchester United’s Under-21s on Tuesday evening.
The 25-year-old has been out of action for 17 months but recently returned to fitness and featured for the Under-21s in a 4-1 defeat to Huddersfield in the EFL Trophy.
Tyrell Malacia put on an encouraging 45-minute display before being taken off at half-time as he continues to build up his fitness and match sharpness.
He was the first signing made under Erik ten Hag, with United’s former manager spending £15m to sign Malacia from Feyenoord.
Two years on, he has only made 39 appearances for United.
However, it seems Tyrell Malacia is now in the final stages of his recovery and should soon be available for new head coach Ruben Amorim.

Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford react to Tyrell Malacia comeback
Malacia’s long-term absence was nothing short of bizarre, with fans left in the dark for long periods of time wondering where the left-back was.
There were brilliant scenes at Carrington when Malacia returned to training with players celebrating his comeback.
After his 45-minute cameo for the Under-21s, Manchester United’s Instagram were quick to congratulate him on his return and messages flooded in from his teammates.
Marcus Rashford replied to the post saying “Twin❤️❤️❤️”, while club captain Bruno Fernandes replied with an emoji.

Fernandes also congratulated Malacia on his return on his Instagram story, writing: “Happy to see you back”.
Can Tyrell Malacia thrive under Ruben Amorim?
A lot has changed since Malacia last made a first-team appearance for United.
Ten Hag was a big admirer of the Dutch left-back but Malacia’s new challenge is to work his way into Amorim’s plans at Old Trafford.
Amorim is expected to introduce a 3-4-3 formation at United, with wing-backs providing width. There has been a lot of talk about who in United’s squad is best suited to those wing-back roles, and that is also the spot Malacia will be targeting.

Ultimately, Malacia will be one of many facing an uncertain future under Amorim, especially after playing such little football recently.
Left-back has been a problem position for United with Luke Shaw and Malacia both injured, and Amorim could dip into the market to find his ideal left wing-back.
