Bruno Fernandes and David de Gea wasted no time in sending heartfelt messages to Facundo Pellistri after the former Manchester United winger’s departure from Old Trafford.
Facundo Pellistri represented Uruguay at the 2024 Copa America this summer and made a second-half cameo appearance in the Community Shield earlier this month.
However, the 22-year-old Uruguayan winger had struggled to establish himself in the Manchester United first team under manager Erik ten Hag.
Pellistri faced fierce competition for a place in the United starting XI on the wing, with the likes of Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho preferred ahead of him.
United on Wednesday confirmed that Pellistri had made his exit from Old Trafford and had signed for Greek Super League side Panathinaikos.
According to BBC Sport, it is believed that the Red Devils agreed to a £5.1m fee, including a further £1.7m in add-ons, for the sale of Pellistri this summer.
The publication added that United have in place a buy-back option for three years and will receive a hefty 45 per cent sell-on fee from a future transfer of Pellistri.

Fernandes’ message to Pellistri
Manchester United signed Facundo Pellistri from Uruguayan side Penarol in 2020 and the ex-Red Devils player made 25 senior appearances for the Premier League club.
Pellistri’s spell at Old Trafford saw him loaned out twice to La Liga side Alaves and Spanish outfit Granada in a bid to secure regular first-team minutes.
He took to Instagram on Wednesday and shared a post dedicated to his time at United, with Pellistri tagging the club and adding a heart emoji.
Bruno Fernandes has waxed lyrical about Pellistri’s potential recently and the United captain shared a touching message again with the Uruguay international.
“You deserve the best,” he wrote to Pellistri, adding a heart emoji.

De Gea’s response to Pellistri’s Man Utd exit
David de Gea only recently made his long-awaited return to football earlier this month after he signed for Serie A side Fiorentina.
The 33-year-old United legend had left Old Trafford at the end of the 2022-23 Premier League campaign and had been a free agent for all of last season.
De Gea took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and reacted to former United teammate Pellistri announcing his exit from the Red Devils.
Responding to Pellistri’s tweet, the Fiorentina new boy wrote: “Facuuuu!! All the best amigo.”
De Gea, much like former United teammate Fernandes, signed off his message to the Panathinaikos signing with a heart emoji.
