Manchester United fans have now had their say on the high-profile public spat between club manager Ruben Amorim and Red Devils legend Paul Scholes.

Paul Scholes has not been shy to throw out his criticism at the Premier League club in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era and Ruben Amorim was his latest target.

Speaking on his The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast last week, the 51-year-old United legend pulled no punches towards the current Red Devils boss.

Is this ambition or delusion from Ruben Amorim?

Scholes suggested that Amorim was not fully aligned with the values of United and questioned the identity of the Premier League club’s playing style under him.

“I don’t think the manager gets the club, full stop,” he said.

“I just don’t think he’s the right man. Man United [are] about risk and entertainment, more than anything.

“Having fans on the edge of their seat[s] f—— ready to go. Wingers who beat people. Shots on goal. Bits of skill. There’s nothing there.”

Man Utd fans threw their major backing behind one figure out of Ruben Amorim and Paul Scholes

Ruben Amorim finally responded to Paul Scholes and other Manchester United legends who have been critical about his reign at Old Trafford so far.

The 40-year-old United manager admitted that the Red Devils have been “underachieving” and felt the club should have chalked up more points this season.

However, Amorim did not do himself any favours with United fans after his latest comments around Kobbie Mainoo made Scholes look like “he was right” about him.

One Red Devils supporter tweeted: “Scholes is like a broken clock that’s right twice a day, and he was right about Amorim. He doesn’t get it.”

Someone else commented: “People actually revolted when Scholes said Amorim doesn’t know what Manchester United is… Only to have their man prove it through his own words.”

“Last week, Paul Scholes accused Ruben Amorim of not getting Manchester United. This is Exhibit A [Amorim’s comments on Mainoo],” another suggested.

While a fourth argued: “Amorim genuinely proved Scholes right after everyone clowned on a club legend that’s won 11 league titles for us. LOL.”

A fifth United fan said: “Again, Paul Scholes was not wrong when he said, ‘Amorim just doesn’t get it.’ He just doesn’t get what it is to be a Manchester United manager.”

Someone else argued: “Scholes was right, Amorim just doesn’t get it. The club [are] losing [their] values more than ever under him. He’s not the right manager for the long term or the short term. [He is] 13 months in the job, what has he improved? Who has he improved? Nothing or nobody. Sooner he’s gone, the better!”

“Interviews like this make you rethink what Scholes said. Managing Manchester United is different [and] Amorim needs to find that balance,” a seventh posted.

Another X user added: “Amorim publicly criticising academy players in his press conference pretty much confirms everything Scholes was saying, ‘He doesn’t get the club.’”

What did Ruben Amorim say about out-of-favour Man Utd midfielder Kobbie Mainoo after Paul Scholes’ criticism?

Scholes has been a big fan of Kobbie Mainoo and the 20-year-old Stockport-born talent has fallen out of favour in the United starting XI under Amorim this season.

Mainoo has struggled for regular United first-team minutes in the 2025-26 Premier League campaign and the Red Devils midfielder has been linked with a loan exit.

Amorim stoked the flames further with United fans after he said that he would embrace talks with Mainoo over a potential move away in the January 2026 window.

“If Kobbie comes to me and talks to me, I will talk to him,” he said, as per The Guardian.

“I’m not going to say what I’m going to say to Kobbie, but I will be really pleased if Kobbie comes to talk to me about that.

“I just want my players happy and I understand that every individual has their goals.”

Mainoo is under contract with United until 2027 and the England international has not made a single Premier League start in 10 league appearances this season.
