Manchester United are not the only team to suffer an injury problem ahead of next week’s FA Cup semi-final.
Opponents Brighton have suffered an injury scare with wonderkid striker Evan Ferguson forced off after 36 minutes against Chelsea.
Ferguson suffered an ankle injury and could not continue. His manager Roberto De Zerbi told BBC Sport after the game: “We are losing too many players.
“We have a very tough last period of the season. The next game we will play the semi-final of the FA Cup and this is a problem for us.’
Brighton went on to beat Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge with Ferguson’s replacement Julio Enciso scoring a superb long range effort.
Clearly they will be a big threat whoever is up front, but they would rather have Ferguson available.
Ankle injuries can take weeks to recover from and there is a strong chance the Republic of Ireland international will now miss the big game at Wembley.
Manchester United are banged up too
Manchester United will be without star defenders Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez for the fixture due to injuries.
Harry Maguire is also suspended for the game at Wembley, making it probable Luke Shaw will partner Victor Lindelof at the back.
If Ferguson cannot play then will be somewhat of a relief, considering the circumstances. But former United ace Danny Welbeck will be a threat.
He has haunted United before and scored today against Chelsea. There is an outside chance Marcus Rashford returns for Erik ten Hag’s side.
Before then, we have two tough games to negotiate, away at Nottingham Forest and then Sevilla. Hopefully two wins – with no more injuries.
