Brazil were held to a draw in World Cup qualifying at home to Venezuela, with Casemiro captaining the side.
A star-studded Brazil side could only muster a 1-1 home draw against Venezuela last night, after conceding a late goal.
It was a disappointing night, the first points they have dropped in World Cup qualifiers so far.
Casemiro played 79 minutes, with Brazil conceding after he had been substituted.
Casemiro performance rated
Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte produced player ratings for the Selecao performance and Casemiro graded relatively highly.
He was graded a 6.5/10, the joint highest of all the Brazil players, along with goalscorer Gabriel Maghalaes.
The verdict read: “He made good passes to the wingers, accelerated the pace of the match and, when he had space, shot from outside the area. Defensively, he was very little required, but, as usual, he got the job done.”
There was a much harsher rating for Tottenham forward Richarlison, who was given just 4.5/10, delivering “Another performance below expectations.”
Lance reported the result as an ’embarrassment’ for Brazil, drawing against a team they routinely beat.
Mixed form
Casemiro was criticised in his previous Brazil performance, in which the press in his homeland decried it as his worst ever for his country. So this was step forward.
His form for Manchester United has been mixed, he has scored four goals, but his defensive impact has tailed off.
He was substituted after just 45 minutes of Manchester United’s last game against Brentford. Casemiro will be glad to get back onto the pitch, but Brazil’s failure to win won’t make him feel much better.
