Eriksen, who has been pictured wearing the United shirt, could make his first appearance for the club in today’s behind closed doors friendly against non-league side Wrexham.

Eriksen’s miraculous return to football following the cardiac arrest he suffered at last summer’s European Championship was already one of last season’s highlights and success stories.

But during his season-long loan at Norwich City, Williams had an incident with Eriksen which likely brought a smile to every football fan.

Back in March during Brentford’s 3-1 win at Carrow Road, Williams was looking to gallop forward down the left-hand side but he was pulled back by the former Ajax, Tottenham and Inter Milan midfielder.

The pair bundled to the floor and not knowing it was Eriksen, an irate Williams was frustrated with the professional foul and grabbed Brentford’s former number 21.

But as soon as Williams realised who it was, he gave Eriksen a massive hug while on the floor.

The pair were reunited at Carrington following Eriksen’s signing and they had a good catch up with one and other.

Williams said to Eriksen: “It’s good to have you here.”

While Eriksen looks set to play an influential role in Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United rebuild, it’s unclear where Williams falls within the former Ajax manager’s plans.

The England Under-21 international, who missed the club’s pre-season tour due to a ‘small issue’, has been linked with a move to Brighton & Hove Albion.

And with Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Alex Telles competing for the left-back spot, it’s hard to see the academy graduate getting the first team football he craves at Old Trafford this season.
