Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Alan Shearer insisted that Crystal Palace were dealt a major blow after Ismaila Sarr was pulled off with an injury in the first half.
The Premier League legend told Gary Lineker: “No, no, I just, you know, the analysis is, Gaz, that how poor Man United were in the first half in terms of lack of effort, lack of intensity, lack of closing down.
“And then Ismaila Sarr went off injured and I think that was a big blow for Palace.
“It was a big blow for them. He took a heavy knock on his ankle, he twisted it.”

Palace manager Oliver Glasner had to replace Ismaila Sarr with Eddie Nketiah before half-time and Shearer felt that Ruben Amorim’s instructions would have been clear.
“And then once he went off [Sarr] and [before] the second half, I think Amorim’s got stuck into his team at half-time and said, ‘Unless you up the intensity and the effort and the work rate and the closing down, because this team will tire. Because of European football on Thursday evening,’ and I think that’s exactly what happened.”

Manchester United pushed back the early dominance from the first half against Palace and the Red Devils took control of the Premier League tie after the break.
Shearer agreed with Lineker that United were underwhelming in the opening 45 minutes, but he couldn’t overlook their turnaround against Palace on Sunday.

“So, you saw a different Man United team in terms of effort and closing down from the first half to the second half,” he said.
“And eventually, I know they got the two set pieces, but that was the big difference for me.
“But I agree with you, I thought Man United were terrible in the first 40 minutes or so.
“But [in the] second half, I thought they were the better team and Crystal Palace were the ones that looked very leggy after that, which I guess is understandable.”
United will now be in action at Old Trafford on Thursday and the Premier League club will host West Ham for an 8pm kick-off time in the UK.
