Manchester United finally broke their Selhurst Park curse with a 2-1 win courtesy of second-half goals from Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount.
Man Utd almost made an inroad within the first minute as a long throw caused chaos in Palace’s box, but that remained their attacking high as Palace grew into the game.
They were eventually rewarded after the half-hour mark when Mateta struck a penalty as United’s anaemic attack showed no signs of improvement.
The second half was more of the same until a smart finish from Joshua Zirkzee woke up Man Utd, with Mason Mount scoring soon after to complete a turnaround.
Palace’s tired legs from a midweek trip began to show as United saw the game off comfortably, with Lisandro Martinez making his return from injury.

Man Utd player ratings vs Crystal Palace
Senne Lammens – 6
Sent the wrong way for the penalty twice (re-taken by Mateta), but fairly secure otherwise.
Who was Manchester United’s MAN OF THE MATCH vs Crystal Palace?🤔🔥
Leny Yoro – 4
Mateta gave him a breathless game, culminating in him conceding a penalty with a desperate tackle.
Matthijs de Ligt – 5
Another victim of Mateta as he started the game being put on skates by him out wide. Grew into it in the second half.
Luke Shaw – 6
Best of a bad back-three as his last-ditch tackles prevented Palace from running away with it in the first half.
Amad – 5
Struggled to get the ball in dangerous areas in attack and was constantly targeted in defence.
Diogo Dalot – 2
Doesn’t offer much else apart from threatening long throws. A win can’t give him a hiding place.
Casemiro – 3
Sloppy passing as he sacrificed accuracy for urgency. Rash tackling added to a poor game.
Bruno Fernandes – 6
No point repeating it, but he’s not a defensive midfielder. Made it count upfield with assists.
Bryan Mbeumo – 5
The Man Utd malaise is finally catching up to him as he struggled to get involved. Slightly improved second half, but well below his standards.
Mason Mount – 6
Completed the turnaround with a fine finish to catch Henderson off-guard. Wasn’t doing very well prior to that goal.
Joshua Zirkzee – 6
Scored a well-taken goal to mask the general disappointing level of performance.
