Former Manchester United coach Benni McCarthy has reached out to congratulate Rasmus Hojlund.
Rasmus Hojlund showed his goalscoring ability by netting twice in Napoli’s Champions League victory over Sporting.
Hojlund is at Napoli on a season long loan, with the Italian club holding an option to buy for £38 million.
He took a major step towards convincing Napoli to pay up with his match-winning brace in their 2-1 win.
Hojlund scored one goal after a through ball, and another was a header, showing a variety and new confidence in his game.

Benni McCarthy congratulates Rasmus Hojlund
Benni McCarthy was Manchester United’s striker coach during the 2023/24 season, Rasmus Hojlund’s first at Old Trafford.
Out of the two seasons Hojlund spent at United, he was most productive working with McCarthy, even if it was still inconsistent.
After the win, Hojlund posted on Instagram to say that he had not expected to be receiving assists from Kevin de Bruyne when the year began.
But with De Bruyne’s creativity, Hojlund is thriving, and making the most of his fresh start with the Serie A side.
McCarthy responded to Hojlund’s message, writing: “Solid my man so pleased and happy for you Ras / Keep the fire burning.”

Hojlund has ticked the box Napoli wanted
Napoli signed Rasmus Hojlund after lead striker Romelu Lukaku suffered an injury that would keep him sidelined for most of 2025.
The Serie A side chose to sign Hojlund in large part due to his Champions League performances with Manchester United in 2023/24, where he scored five goals in the group stages.
Hojlund has justified their decision, with two goals in two games, and he is proving a point to his new side as well as his old one.
How he fares when Lukaku returns could end up defining how his season plays out, but right now he is doing everything he can to make his spell a success.
