Manchester United spent big on Benjamin Sesko but there should be confidence in his ability to handle the pressure.
The Red Devils will head into the 2025/26 season with a new main striker after spending £66m on Benjamin Sesko’s arrival this summer.
Sesko was unveiled at Old Trafford moments before United’s penalty shootout victory over Fiorentina in the final pre-season friendly of the summer.
With just one week to go until United face Arsenal in the Premier League opening weekend, Ruben Amorim has a big decision to make on whether to throw Benjamin Sesko straight into action.
Amorim is confident that Sesko will settle quickly at United, and that claim is backed up by comments from the Slovenian’s former coaches.
Benjamin Sesko’s character is exactly what Man United need
Heading into the summer transfer window, Ruben Amorim revealed that Ineos have a new transfer ‘rule’ which means the character of every new signing is more important than ever.
United want to make sure they are not only signing elite players, but players with an elite mentality.
The Athletic have done a deep dive into Sesko’s upbringing, and comments around United’s new arrival will encourage Ineos that they have indeed signed a brilliant character for the dressing room.
One recurring theme in almost every comment is Sesko’s incredible determination, ambition and drive.
Sesko’s former coach at Krsko’s U15 side, Mirsad Mujakic, said: “His potential is unlimited, because he is such a dedicated worker. He will do everything and more to succeed — and that’s why I think he will quickly show why he is among the best strikers in the world.”
Sesko scored 59 goals in 23 games in one season during his time at Krsko, and that is what first attracted United’s attention to him.
While on loan at Liefering, Sesko was coached by Bo Svensson, and he also spoke highly of the striker’s attitude: “He was different to a lot of the young players I’ve coached. Because of that ambition and determination to get better. He was just completely passionate about his football.”
Speaking to people who have worked in RB Leipzig’s footballing department, the report also adds that staff viewed Sesko as a: “perfect, pliable pupil,” adding that “his dedication and drive have been impressive”.

Amorim will be looking forward to working with Sesko and developing what is undoubtedly a potential superstar.
Ahead of the Fiorentina friendly, Amorim raved about Sesko’s attitude, suggesting he is a perfect fit for this United team.
“He will realise during his first training that he is at the right place [for his development]. That’s really important. He has the characteristics that we needed,” Amorim said.

“[Sesko] is a player that, with all the information that we have, we need to stop the guy from working. It’s not the opposite. So that is also important. He’s really young. He’s good in the air. He’s good at running the channels. He’s good on the ball. So I think he has great potential.
“I think he can improve a lot. And for sure he’s going to feel at home in our club. He’s the right character to be in this group. So we are really, really happy to have him.”
