Benjamin Sesko set goal target by Rio Ferdinand, Man United striker told to aim for ‘unbelievable’ figure

New Manchester United signing Benjamin Sesko will be under plenty of pressure to find the back of the net for the Red Devils this season.

After signing Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, Manchester United finished their new-look attack by striking a £66m deal for Benjamin Sesko.

The Slovenian was unveiled in front of Old Trafford moments before kick-off against Fiorentina, and he will be expected to spearhead Ruben Amorim’s side through the 2025/26 campaign.

Benjamin Sesko’s arrival has cast doubt on Rasmus Hojlund’s future in Manchester, with talks ongoing with AC Milan over a potential loan-to-buy deal.

If Benjamin Sesko is left as United’s only out-and-out striker option, the pressure to score goals will only ramp up further.

How many goals Rio Ferdinand expects from Benjamin Sesko in 25/26

Red Devils legend Rio Ferdinand predicted United to finish top eight this season, suggesting anything higher would be a “ridiculous” achievement for Amorim.

But Rio Ferdinand has been impressed by United’s summer business, and he has set a goal for Sesko heading into the new season.

“I don’t see him coming in and scoring 25 Premier League goals, or even 20 Premier League goals.

“I think if he comes in and scores between 10 and 15, then I think that’s an unbelievable return.”

Last season, United’s top scorers in the Premier League were Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo, but neither were able to hit double figures.

Benjamin Sesko brings much more than just goals to Man Utd

Sesko’s priority at United will be scoring goals, ultimately, that is what he’s been brought in to do.

But Sesko’s incredible physical attributes mean he can offer so much more to Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.

Last season, Hojlund often struggled to hold up play and link up with teammates around him. That is an area where Sesko is much better than his competition, with a superior duel rate and aerial duel rate.

Sesko can benefit from Mbeumo’s crosses, with United’s new wide man already showcasing his brilliant passing ability through pre-season.

In his first club interview, Sesko explained his three biggest strengths, which included his heading ability. In both boxes, Sesko should improve United at set pieces – an area Amorim’s side struggled last season.
