Benjamin Sesko scored two impressive goals against Burnley as Manchester United walked away from Turf Moor with just a point.

Manchester United drew 2-2 with Burnley on Wednesday night, making it three consecutive draws in the Premier League.

The result means United currently sit seventh in the league table, ahead of an FA Cup third round tie against Brighton at Old Trafford on Sunday.

It was Darren Fletcher’s first game in charge as interim head coach, just a day after Ruben Amorim was sacked from his role.

Fletcher made several changes to his team and welcomed Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount back from injury.

However, it was Benjamin Sesko who really stood out for all the right reasons.

Benjamin Sesko reacts after scoring brace against Burnley

Sesko has been the subject of criticism following his summer move from RB Leipzig.

In recent weeks, the 22-year-old has looked like a striker short on confidence, but his performance against Burnley, on top of the two goals, should give him a much-needed boost, even though United didn’t get the result they deserved.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Sesko was asked whether it was a relief to score two goals after a slow start to his United career.

“It’s easier for me, but it’s really important for the team that I can help in that way,” Sesko told Sky Sports in a post-match interview.

“It’s my job at the end of the day to help the team as much as possible. We still got a draw and we need to keep moving with that.”

After missing multiple chances against Burnley, Sesko admitted he kept plugging away until he hit the back of the net – not once but twice.

“Yeah, of course,” he added.

“It’s always important to try and convert your chances over and over again. I try to bring the balls inside the box because we were creating lots of chances, which is the most important.

“We just need to keep pushing in those sorts of situations.”

Sesko currently has four goals to his name since joining United, but he will be aiming to build on that against Brighton this weekend.

Burnley’s two goals came from lapses in concentration, with Casemiro at fault for letting his run free in a dangerous area to cross the ball, and Lisandro Martinez giving Jadon Anthony too much space to shoot for the costly equaliser.

Benjamin Sesko stats against Burnley

Sesko caused problems for Burnley throughout the game.

The Slovenia international forced Martin Dubravka into a full-stretch save in the first half, before completing a second-half brace in a matter of 10 minutes.

Sesko won 78% of his aerial duels and touched the ball 39 times as the lone striker.

With 13 of those touches inside Burnley’s box, Sesko kept getting into dangerous areas and benefited from Fernandes playing as a No.10, especially for his first goal.

Sesko managed seven shots on target.
