Benjamin Sesko has been in red-hot form for Manchester United but on the international stage it has been very different.

After enduring a frustrating start to his Manchester United career, Benjamin Sesko has now opened his goalscoring account in England.

Sesko scored against Sunderland to make it two goals in his last two matches for the Red Devils, but the October international break halted his momentum in Manchester.

This week, Sesko featured in a 0-0 draw for Slovenia, and he will be back in action on Monday evening as they face Switzerland in their latest 2026 World Cup qualifier.

Not only is Slovenia desperate for three points, but Sesko will be desperate to end his goalscoring drought for his country.

Benjamin Sesko can end year-long goal drought

Sesko is at risk of not going to the World Cup, so the 22-year-old’s full focus will be on winning against Switzerland to keep their hopes alive.

But from a personal point of view, a goal would also help to end what has been the longest international scoring drought of his career.

As pointed out by Siol, Sesko has gone 639 minutes without scoring a goal for Slovenia, spanning over six matches.

It is his longest goal drought since he broke into Slovenia’s national team, with his last goal coming in November 2024 when he scored a penalty against Norway.

If Sesko fails to score against Switzerland, his drought will last a full year with Slovenia’s next fixture on November 15th.

Benjamin Sesko can build confidence ahead of Liverpool clash

Immediately after the Switzerland clash, Sesko can refocus on his United career with a huge clash just around the corner.

United travel to Anfield to face Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, and Sesko can expect to be included in Amorim’s starting XI.

With two goals in his last two games, Sesko will hope to continue his scoring streak against United’s arch-rivals, and a goal in the international break will build his confidence even more.
