BBC pundit predicts Manchester United result v Liverpool at Anfield

After matches in the Europa League, Carabao Cup, and FA Cup, Manchester United return to Premier League action this weekend, and it’s a corker.

United visit Liverpool in a huge match between the two teams. There is no point looking at the ‘title race’ right now. That’s something which might come into focus if United can win at Anfield.

Full focus has to be on beating Jurgen Klopp’s side, who have begun to climb up the table, sitting sixth after slumping as low as ninth.

Liverpool’s 5-2 home loss to Real Madrid shows they are still very beatable, and right now Manchester United players are confident they can beat anybody.

Manchester United face Liverpool at Anfield

Manchester United were beaten 4-0 at Anfield last season in a one-sided affair which saw Paul Pogba substituted after 10 minutes with injury. It was also Phil Jones’ last game for the club, although he remains under contract.

The highlight of the match last season was Hannibal’s kamikaze cameo which earned him a booking. At least he showed a bit of fight.

This time United will head to Anfield ready to compete, having beaten Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford, and 4-0 in pre-season for good measure.

A victory will extend United’s lead over Liverpool from 10 points to 13, and go a long way to locking up a Champions League spot.

Win and United can start looking upwards, to start chasing down City and Arsenal. Lose, and it’s a case of ‘look over your shoulder’ at the chasing back.

United are being tipped to win by BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton, who believes Erik ten Hag’s in form side can take advantage of Liverpool’s defence.

He is predicting a 2-1 win for Manchester United at Anfield, explaining: “United are just so clinical in front of goal, though, and Rashford could be the difference.

“Right now, I just see him scoring every time he plays. It hurts me to see United back and playing well again, but it is good for the Premier League.”
