BBC pundit blasts Manchester United players and tells Erik ten Hag what to do

It will come as little surprise that there were no Manchester United players named in the BBC Team of the Week after a shocking weekend performance.

Manchester United were beaten 3-0 at home to Bournemouth, a first ever home loss against the Cherries.

This did not stop BBC pundit Garth Crooks weighing in with his opinion on the state of affairs at Manchester United in his Team of the Week column.

Crooks is of the opinion that Manchester United’s players are firmly to blame, and the manager must be given time to resolve the problems, by shipping some of them out.

Manchester United players blamed

Crooks explained that he felt Manchester United did not approach the Bournemouth match with the same intensity as they did the Chelsea game, and they paid the price. He blames this on attitude problems.

He said: “This was a classic case of United’s players not taking Bournemouth seriously and thinking they were pushovers, having beaten Chelsea in midweek. They have now put themselves back under enormous pressure with this result and they only have themselves to blame.”

Erik ten Hag should in theory share some of this blame. It is up to the manager and coaching staff to ensure his players approach the game with the right mindset.

Change the playing squad

Crooks went on to say that problems stem from some players being not good enough.

He said: “There are players who shouldn’t even be there and if boss Erik ten Hag intends to stay at the club he needs to do something about that very quickly.

“Their problems are less to do with Ten Hag and more to do with their poor attitude and application in recent games.”

The transfer window is upcoming, but it remains to be seen how active Manchester United might be.

One area where the team do need to strengthen is striker. The team’s goal difference for the season is -3.

Rasmus Hojlund is an investment for the future rather than a weekly starter now, while Anthony Martial fits the description of one the players Crooks is referring to, who should no longer be at the club.
