Manchester United’s big match against Barcelona this week pits two giants of European football against each other in a crucial game.

One of their former players, Junior Firpo, who plays for Leeds, has given an interview to Spanish newspaper Sport ahead of the game.

Firpo played at Old Trafford recently with Leeds as his side claimed a shock 2-2 draw, and while he feels Barcelona have a good chance to win, he has warned it is going to be very tough.

He picked out two United players as dangermen and explained how his Leeds side tried to combat the Red Devils.

Barcelona warned ahead of United game

Junior Firpo warned Barcelona about United and described the irrepressible form Marcus Rashford is in, with 16 goals in 17 games.

He said: “They [Barcelona] are going to suffer because United is a team that is doing very well right now and they have a player that everything he touches comes in, Rashford.

“He’s going well up front, he’s fast, the team plays for him, he has Bruno behind, who is very dangerous. What would you highlight about Rashford? Everything.”

He explained that Barcelona’s hope was to try and dominate possession to keep the ball away from Rashford, and do what his Leeds side did, and attempt to force the ball away from Rashford and towards the right-hand side.

Ultimately Rashford scored in both games against Leeds, just like he did against Barcelona. He is inevitable right now.

Firpo also praised Casemiro as a ‘great signing’, also commending the good work Erik ten Hag has done to turn the game around.

Barcelona have travelled to United with a 20-man squad and will train on the Old Trafford pitch today ahead of the second leg.

Thursday’s match is set up as a decisive encounter, there must be a winner. With no away goals, the tie could go to penalties if level after 90 minutes and extra-time
