The 19-year-old played the full 90 minutes of United’s victory over Newcastle and Heaven rose to the occasion with a mature and composed performance overall.

Heaven’s defensive qualities stood right out and the young United centre-back earned high praise, including from Sky Sports pundits Roy Keane and Gary Neville.

The United youth academy product has become a key player for Ruben Amorim in recent weeks amid the injury blows to defenders Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt.

Ruben Amorim’s telling Ayden Heaven verdict speaks volumes about the Man Utd defender

Manchester United hosted Newcastle at Old Trafford and the Red Devils walked away with all three Premier League points after a hard-fought contest.

A sensational first-half volley from United defender Patrick Dorgu proved enough to separate the two sides by the time of the full-time whistle on Friday evening.

Speaking after United’s win over Newcastle, Ruben Amorim was directly asked about Ayden Heaven’s performance in the heart of the Red Devils’ defence at Old Trafford.

The 40-year-old United manager lavished high praise on Heaven and insisted that everyone “can feel” that the former Gunners academy product is improving.

“I’m really pleased with Ayden,” Amorim said at his post-match press conference, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“You can feel that he’s improving every game. He’s young, but you don’t feel that he has a good game and then he slows the game or the thinking during the game.

“No, you feel that he’s improving during the game.”

Amorim admitted that it could be difficult for other first-team players to pry Heaven from the United XI if he continues playing the way that he has done recently.

“I think he was not playing, but he trained really well,” he continued.

“You just need to train really well to be ready when the opportunity comes. So, in this moment, if you continue to play like that, it’s going to be really hard to take his place.”

United are now fifth in the Premier League table and the Red Devils will host Wolves at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening for their final match of 2025.
