Aurelien Tchouameni is better suited to Manchester United than Paul Pogba
Paul Pogba admitted this week how unhappy he is with Manchester United’s barren run without trophies. While the club’s supporters are stuck waiting for the club’s luck to eventually turn, Pogba has the opportunity to ‘cut and run’ this summer when his contract expires.
As part of a candid interview with French newspaper Le Figaro, Pogba admitted he does not really have a real role at Manchester United.
He explained: “At the Blues [France] I play, and, in addition, at my position. I know my role, I feel the confidence of the coach, the players. It’s normal , to feel this difference with Manchester, because it’s hard to be consistent when you often change position, game system or partners.

The situation was spelled out to Pogba for the Champions League home defeat to Atletico Madrid; he was not selected as a starter.
He has been tried out on the wing, as he just has not been able to establish a regular role as part of a midfield two. When he has played in a two, he has been inconsistent and over six seasons it simply has not worked.
Manchester United can buy a midfielder who does have a role
With Pogba expected to move on, United shouldn’t fight to keep him. There is no point persisting with a player who in his own words, does not have a role in the team.
United should be looking at Pogba’s France international teammate Aurelien Tchouameni, who would have an immediate role in the Red Devils side. The Athletic reported in January that United were monitoring the midfielder.
Tchouameni’s role would be defined; he would be the defensive midfielder United require. Pogba would actually be better off too if he stayed and played alongside the Monaco talent, but it does appear he will be moving on regardless.
The youngster has already been compared favourably to Pogba. French football agent Bruno Satin was quoted by Girondins4Ever last month talking about Tchouameni, who left Bordeaux for Monaco in 2020.
Satin said: “It will be very hard to keep him for Monaco next summer. He is young, he performs well, he is already in the French team, so he is already stamped with the French team, which is important. To make a small comparison of what he is doing at the moment… I saw Paul Pogba play last week, what Aurélien Tchouaméni is doing at the moment is very much superior.”
French journalist Geoffroy Garétier also stated: “He is a stronger Paul Pogba in the duel, and in the physical impact.“
The comparisons are important. Tchouameni has traits the Manchester United team currently lacks, and that Paul Pogba is just unable to provide.
The Monaco star ranks number one for interceptions in France with 87, which is also three more than Declan Rice, per FBRef. He ranks sixth in Ligue 1 for tackles won, and his defensive strength is what United require.
At just 22-years-old, Tchouameni would be a smart investment for United, and he is highly admired by Paul Mitchell, Monaco’s sporting director.
Mitchell has been linked with United by The Mail, and he told The Athletic: “If I was at a big club and saw a profile like Aurelien, I would want his services. I believe he can play in the best leagues in the world and dominate the biggest games in the world.”
Right now he is quite simply more suited to what Manchester United need than Paul Pogba, whose time at United is rapidly ticking down.
A report from The Sun on Wednesday night claim both Newcastle and Aston Villa have enquired after Pogba, although a move to a European club is considered more likely.
