Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has expressed frustration over Manchester United’s victory.

There is plenty of debate among Manchester United fans over David de Gea‘s role in goal and the importance of a goalkeeper who can play out from the back.

It is notable then, that Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez attributes the game deciding moment at the weekend to a sequence which saw him kick it long.

The World Cup winner expressed his frustration after the game to Sky Sports, praising Casemiro in the process.

Martinez praises Casemiro

Manchester United’s winning goal was scored by Bruno Fernandes after a swift attack at the end of the first half.

Martinez praised the header won in midfield by Casemiro from one of his goal kicks, expressing regret he chose that option.

The goalkeeper said: “I haven’t played a long ball in 40 minutes, then I made one and Casemiro had an incredible header and Rashford got one on one.

“I made a save then the ball was deflected by Moreno. I’m disappointed to lose the match on that.”

This was the fine margin the match was decided on, with United holding on for a 15th clean sheet of the season.

Casemiro had been slightly underwhelming against Tottenham on Thursday night by his standards, he was back to his best against Villa.

United will need him to continue like this between now and the end of the season to seal a Champions League spot, and hopefully win the FA Cup final.
