A former Manchester United player has pulled no punches over one thing that he saw from Ruben Amorim’s men in Wednesday’s humiliating defeat to Grimsby Town.
Manchester United are out of the Carabao Cup after the Red Devils failed to beat League Two outfit Grimsby Town on penalties at Blundell Park in their clash.
Grimsby were 2-0 up against United in the first half of the second-round Carabao Cup tie and a shell-shocked Red Devils had to fight back hard in the second half.
Charles Vernam stunned the Red Devils by opening the scoring for Grimsby before Tyrell Warren doubled the advantage for David Artell’s men on Wednesday evening.

Dion Dublin sends a brutal message to Man Utd players after the Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town
Manchester United were all over the place in the first half after conceding twice and the Red Devils were fortunate to only be 2-0 down at the half-time whistle.
Ruben Amorim was forced to make key changes at the break after Grimsby Town had played United off the park in the opening 45 minutes at Blundell Park.
Patrick Dorgu, Tyler Fredricson and Manuel Ugarte all made way and Ruben Amorim replaced them with Bruno Fernandes, Bryan Mbeumo and Matthijs de Ligt.
Speaking on BBC Sport, former United player Dion Dublin called out the “pretty embarrassing” from the starting XI in the first half of the Grimsby match.
“Going back to the starting lineup, Ruben Amorim makes the changes and I am expecting Ugarte, [Kobbie] Mainoo, Amad [Diallo] and Cunha to be enough,” he said.
“With the right application, if they had played the game one and two touch, at the right tempo, they might have got over the line.
“But they got out-fought. I found the first half pretty embarrassing as an ex-Manchester United player.”
Dion Dublin’s telling reaction to Grimsby Town’s huge upset over Man Utd in the second round of the Carabao Cup
Dion Dublin, who played under Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford in the 1990s, made his position clear that Grimsby were the better side overall in the 90 minutes.
The 56-year-old BBC pundit admitted that David Artell’s side “fully deserved” the result at Blundell Park and he felt that United were second best in the match.
“Overall, if there is a percentage on this game, the game itself, I think Grimsby nicked it 60-40, perhaps even more than that,” Dublin said.
“With all the effort that they put into the first half, I think they deserved to get past this immovable object you would [expect] to have been in Manchester United.
“Grimsby, the way that they were organised, fully deserved this.”
Amorim will now see his United side return to action on the weekend in the Premier League, with the Red Devils hosting Burnley at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
