Arsenal legend David Seaman has appeared to make a U-turn on Andre Onana after claiming the Manchester United star’s “confidence is coming back” to him.
Andre Onana arrived at Old Trafford last summer after Manchester United agreed a transfer deal worth £47.2m to sign him from Serie A side Inter Milan.
The 27-year-old had been a key part of Inter Milan’s stunning Champions League run last season and high expectations were placed on Onana from the beginning.
Onana, who previously worked with Erik ten Hag at Ajax, replaced David de Gea between the stick after the United legend’s Old Trafford exit last summer.
However, the Cameroon international came under mounting criticism earlier this season after Onana was at fault for howlers in the Champions League.
Despite his impressive run of form at the San Siro last season, Onana’s ability was brought into question and the United star’s life at Old Trafford has started off rough.
However, United manager Erik ten Hag has kept faith in the former Ajax and Inter star and Onana has maintained his status as the club’s No 1 this season.

Seaman on Man Utd star Onana
David Seaman had previously raised his own concerns around Andre Onana and claimed that the Manchester United No 1 was a “real mixed bag” between the sticks.
The 60-year-old former England and Arsenal star insisted that Onana was trying to pull off fashionable saves and that his technique was “strange.”
However, Seaman has now suggested that the United star has “stopped” with his stylistic saves and Onana has “settled down a lot now” at Old Trafford.
Speaking on his podcast Seaman Says, he explained: “He’s making some saves with proper technique, which is what I’m looking at. I think he’s stopped trying to make saves look good.
“Because when he first went in, he was making some really strange saves – like what I call camera saves.
“Because he’s gone in, he wants people to see how good he is. And he was trying to make it look better and it was flipping around and he was causing all sorts of trouble.
“He’s settled down a lot now. We’re seeing how good he is with his feet.”
Seaman compares Onana with Arsenal player
Seaman went one step further and compared Onana with Arsenal shot-stopper David Raya, who arrived at the Gunners last summer as part of a loan deal.
The Gunners legend claimed Raya, who was signed from Brentford, has been “brilliant” with his feet from the back and his confidence has improved.
Seaman said that Onana, much like Raya, has seen his confidence improve, despite claiming that the United star still has a “lot to prove” at the club.
“Now I compare him with [David] Raya. Raya at the back now with his feet is brilliant,” he continued.
“His confidence is there.
“And it’s like with Onana, his confidence is coming back. He’s still got a lot to prove.
“There’s no doubt about that. We’ll see the rest of this season and going into next season.”
