Arne Slot takes laughable new swipe at Man United and Ruben Amorim’s tactics

Liverpool manager Arne Slot does not appear to have recovered from Manchester United’s win at Anfield.

Manchester United beat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday afternoon to end a nine-year run of misery on Merseyside.

Even before a ball had been kicked, Arne Slot complained about Ruben Amorim and his decision to drop Benjamin Sesko from his starting line-up.

Tactically, Amorim exposed Liverpool’s flaws with a brilliant game plan that included splitting and disorganising Liverpool’s back four.

It worked wonders as Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire scored at Anfield, and days later, it seems Slot is still not over it.

Arne Slot makes dig at Man United’s style of play

United inflicted Liverpool’s fourth consecutive defeat across all competitions but they finally ended their losing run with a 5-1 win over Frankfurt in the Champions League.

Instead of celebrating the victory, Slot chose to take another swipe at United’s style of play at Anfield.

“The biggest exception for me was that today, compared to the other games we have played, was the playing style of our opponent.

“We got some energy out of the moments we could press them, which in the last four or five games we played we could not press the opponent because the ball wasn’t on the ground it was in the air.”

Ironically, Liverpool played more long passes than United in Sunday’s clash, which completely rubbishes Slot’s theory on why the hosts lost.

Ruben Amorim showed blueprint to beat Liverpool

Amorim has stubbornly stuck to his 3-4-2-1 formation at United since his appointment last year and that has attracted plenty of criticism from pundits.

But on Sunday, the Portuguese head coach proved how flexible and adaptable his system is within that formation, with United deserved winners at Anfield.

The team selection was brilliant, with United able to handle Liverpool’s physical threat, while a mobile front three caused havoc for Slot’s defence.

Slot seemed pleased that Frankfurt played out from the back against Liverpool, but ultimately they were beaten 5-1. Amorim showed to other managers how to beat Liverpool on their own turf and leave Slot bitter in the process.
