Antony says one player at Man Utd acted like ‘big brother’ to him ahead of Bruno Fernandes

Real Betis winger Antony has admitted that one first-team Manchester United player is like a sibling to him outside of Bruno Fernandes’ influence on him.

Antony’s ill-fated spell at Old Trafford came to an end last summer after the 26-year-old Brazilian left Manchester United and signed for Spanish side Real Betis.

The former Man Utd winger had spent the second half of the 2024-25 campaign on loan at Betis after he had fallen out of favour with Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

Antony’s successful spell with Betis in the 2024-25 season led to the La Liga club signing the Brazil star from United for a £21.65m fee on deadline day in 2025.

Antony admires Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes, but the Real Betis star has a lot of affection for Diogo Dalot

Antony struggled to live up to the hefty price tag that was over his shoulders after Manchester United signed him from Dutch side Ajax in an £81.3m deal in 2022.

The former Ajax winger was reunited with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, but Antony was unable to hold down a regular place in the Man Utd starting XI during his spell.

Antony said that he was surrounded by really important people during his time at United, including Portugal internationals Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, the Real Betis ace has claimed that Diogo Dalot’s influence over him stood out more than any other Man Utd player that he played alongside before his exit.

“I went there, I became a champion, I have two titles there,” he told the YouTube channel Podpah.

“There’s something there that I experienced really well, too, you know? Man, I learned a lot from all the guys there, man.

“With Cristiano, with Bruno himself, really good people too. Diogo Dalot, he’s like my big brother.”

Brazil star Antony receives a fresh start at Real Betis after his Man Utd struggles at Old Trafford

Antony lifted both the FA Cup and League Cup trophies under former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag at Man Utd, despite his underperforming Red Devils playing spell.

The Brazil international only netted 12 times and registered five assists in his 96 appearances for United after his high-profile move from Ajax.

However, Antony’s struggling career took a turn in the right direction after the former Sao Paulo linked up with Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Antony has found the back of the net 23 times and picked up 15 assists in 72 matches across all competitions for Betis since he left Man Utd.
