Antony responds to questions over team unity at Man United

Manchester United winger Antony has given his thoughts on the rumours about a lack of team chemistry at Old Trafford.

There have been rumours of a lack of team unity at Manchester United this week following the Red Devils’ 1-0 loss to Newcastle United.

Erik ten Hag has been under increasing pressure this week as certain journalists have been banned from the Dutchman’s press conferences due to perceived leaks disrupting the harmony within the team.

Ahead of a crucial match at Old Trafford against Chelsea, the Red Devils need a win against Mauricio Pochettino’s side to try and turn the tide in their favour.

In an interview with fan channel The United Stand, Antony, the Brazilian winger, was asked about the chemistry within the team and whether there is a fallout.

“I try to understand the characteristics of my friends,” the former Ajax winger said. “Everything is very natural between us.

“As a result, this created a good chemistry for building the friendships I made in the club. Our group is very close, strengthening us on the field, always running for each other.”

Despite Antony’s words to the contrary, it is hard to agree with the Brazilian purely due to how the Red Devils look on the pitch, they do not look like a side who are willing to fight for each other at this moment in time – and it didn’t appear there was enough running against Newcastle, at least not from certain individuals.

Antony’s struggle

The Brazilian winger has been in and out of the team this season and was suspended for a few matches back in September before being brought back into the team.

Marcus Rashford has been shifted over to the right-hand side but the Englishman has failed to make an impact on that side and there have been calls to drop him.

Alejandro Garnacho has impressed on the left so Rashford being dropped may well be a realistic possibility, a sharp contrast to where he was a year ago.

Antony could well come back into the team for tonight’s game against Chelsea and the Brazilian will have to perform, otherwise, that team unity that the Brazilian has spoken about may well begin to erode.
