Antonio Valencia is dreaming of Manchester United ending their 12-year wait to win the Premier League, but he also wants to see his fellow countrymen succeed in the English top-flight.

The 2025/26 Premier League season is underway, with Manchester United currently sitting 10th in the table.

Ruben Amorim received Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s public backing after a poor start to the season, winning just three of their first seven league games ahead of Sunday’s trip to Liverpool at Anfield.

The North West derby presents Amorim with an opportunity to win back-to-back games in the league for the first time since becoming United head coach. That is a clear sign that he hasn’t been delivering desired results.

However, there is still hope that Amorim can turn things around, and it doesn’t just come from Ratcliffe.

Some former players are remaining hopeful that results will improve in the current season.

Antonio Valencia shares Man Utd dream for 2025/26

When you ask some former United players what they want from the team ahead of each season, the response can sometimes be to win the league.

That was the standard when they played for the club, and they believe it should always remain the same, no matter what, as Amorim attempts to restore United to its former glories.

Antonio Valencia shared a heartfelt message on Instagram on Wednesday evening, showing his gratitude for the opportunity to represent United as a player during his career.

While acknowledging it will be difficult, Valencia says he would like to see United win the league.

Valencia states that he would like to see his fellow countryman, Moises Caicedo (Chelsea) or Piero Hincapie (Arsenal) successful, if United fall short.

The former Ecuador international made 339 appearances for United, scoring 25 goals and registering a whopping 58 assists.

The former United captain won two Premier League titles under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Interestingly, Valencia was singled out as a player who would thrive in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system, especially as a player who transformed from a winger into a right-back at the latter stages of his career.

What has Antonio Valencia done since retiring?

Valencia left United in 2019 after 10 years at Old Trafford.

He went on to play for LDU Quito and Querétaro before announcing his retirement in 2021.

Valencia has since embarked on a new career path in his native Ecuador as owner and founder of his own football club, AV25 Club Deportivo.

It seems Valencia is still supporting United from afar.
